The Lizzie Borden House is where the infamous double homicide of Andrew and Abby Borden took place. Lizzie Borden (July 19,1860-June 1,1927) was the only true suspect in the case, even though the maid was also a suspect. In 1898, it was believed that Lizzie Borden took a hatchet and bludgeoned Abby Borden 17 times in the face and head. Then, her father Andrew Borden came home from a trip, laid down on athe couch in the living room and fell asleep. Lizzie allegedly went downstairs monents later and bludgeoned him too. Lizzie and her sister were to claim a hefty inheritance when they died, so it is believed Lizzie killed them, then she and her sister made off with the inheritance. Lizzie went to trial for the double murders, but was acquitted due to lack of evidence. She died some time later a free woman.
